Be careful with this dive center for safety is not their primary concern. I don’t normally write reviews, but after what my wife and I experienced on Dec 27th at Pirate Divers in Koh Phangan, should be reason enough to pull out the yellow card or even the red one. On our last day of our PADI Open Water certification, we were taken to the Rock for our last dive. That day the waves were about 2 to 4 meters high and from all the boats there, our boat was the only one that stayed; all other boats left the Rock. Despite the danger, we were still forced to jump into the sea. A few minutes later, Nick (our instructor and owner) had to call in our boat to come and rescue us since due to the big waves we kept drifting to open sea rather than towards the Rock. When we got rescued, we were completely exhausted, and yet Nick made us jump and try again. My wife got hit in the head with an oxygen tank, and despite that, they still made her jump again (I found out this later when I returned to the boat).

Anyways, that day was scary rather than fun; and diving is supposed to be fun? The scariest part was seeing the waves slam against the Rock, and we had to be very careful not to get sucked by the strong currents. Later when I returned to the boat, I realized that my wife had to be rescued again (I guess it must have been because of the hit on the head since she felt dizzy and confused). I also found out that despite this, Nick kind of made her understand that if she did not try again, she would not get the certification. What kind of instructor forces their students to go again, despite the danger and the physical health of the student? This looked more like a Rescue certification rather than Open Water. Unfortunately, they did not want to give my wife another day to finish her certification, for she had to pay more money. A German couple whom paid for snorkeling was also affected. The German girl never jumped into the sea and the German guy got very sea sick and almost drowned.

We should have left the Rock as the other boats did, and taken to a secondary diving location; but they did not. They should have at least told the German couple that snorkeling in that location on that day was impossible, but they did not. To me, it seems as if Pirate Divers is more into cashing in the money, rather than the safety and well-being of their customers.

  2. Worth experience.. Pirates divers is also renting motobikes, this is a SCAM. They make you sign the contract so quick and hide the back where you can read the price for reparations and in case of scratch (you know why when you see the price after…) they seem to be nice and serious people you can trust in when you arrive.. They gave me the motobike without checking anything, then when you return it, they take the time to check everything.. They found a litlle scratch i did not do. Instead of paying 200 bath
They will make you pay at least 10 times more ( saying you are already lucky ^^) After talking with my hotel ( next to pirates divers) they confirmed me that they are liar and stealing people, and they are professional people 20 metres from them. As you have to give your passeport, you don’t havrme the choice to pay. AVOID THOSE PEOPLE..i would not even dive with then knowing that there are really professionnal and people you can trust in on the same beach ( Haad Salaad) ask for Monique on the same beach (divers instructor) who is the most serious one..!!!! AVOID Pirates divers as they are concerning renting motobikes, they are professionnal liars and SCAM… I would not dive with them knowing all that!!!
